Look at your credit reports! On AnnualCreditReport.com you are entitled to a free annual credit report from each of the three credit reporting agencies. Credit Repair USA recommends requesting a report from a different bureau every 4 months. June, request a free report from Equifax. Set reminders to request TransUnion in October and Experian in February.
EXCEPTION IN 2022: Through December 2022, you can get a free credit report each week from Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion at AnnualCreditReport.com
How are credit reports used?
Lenders use the reports to decide if they'll give you credit or approve a loan and at what interest rate they will charge you. Employers, insurers, and rental property owners may also look at your credit report. Many times you won't know which credit report a creditor or employer will use to check your credit.
Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion collect and maintain information for your credit reports. Each one manages its own records and all three will have different information about your accounts. And the information each agency has must be accurate.
Why should you check your credit report?
Check your credit reports regularly to make sure that your personal and financial information is accurate. It also helps to make sure nobody's opened fraudulent accounts in your name. If you find errors on your credit report, take steps to have them corrected. We’ll provide instructions in our email next month or contact us on creditrepairusa.us if you have questions.
Request your credit report
On AnnualCreditReport.com you are entitled to a free annual credit report from each of the three credit reporting agencies. These agencies include Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. Did you place a Credit Freeze on your reports with each bureau? It will need to be temporarily lifted to request the free report. Credit Freezes are really cool, and we will go into more detail in a future report or contact us at creditrepairusa.us.
Credit Repair USA recommends spreading them out throughout the year to possibly catch errors or fraud sooner. The exception: If you are buying something big soon - a new car or even a home - you may want to get all 3 credit reports now. That way you can correct any mistakes on all of them right away.
Otherwise, request a free report from Equifax in June/July and set reminders to request TransUnion in October and Experian in February.
